How my research helps children

My research helps us understand the effects of drugs taken during pregnancy on the newborn baby and whether or not there are long-term effects of this exposure. My research on the effects of drugs and how they are metabolized allows us to better prescribe drugs for premature babies.

Current Research Activities

The short term effects of methadone exposure during pregnancy on the newborn baby.
The use of domeperidone to increase breast milk supply in new mothers.

Future Research Plans

1. To examine the long term effects, if any, of in utero methadone exposure.
2. To further characterize the metabolism of methadone during pregnancy and in the newborn.
3. To look at the effects and pharmacokinetics of oral and IV ibuprofen in premature newborn babies.
