How my research helps children
Use of medications in children is common. My research helps children by looking at improving the drug treatment of diseases in children by looking at how well the medications work, if they are safe to take and what effects whether they take their medications or not. Pregnant women often avoid medications as they are afraid that they will harm their unborn child. By looking at the effects of drugs taken during pregnancy, the information obtained may help pregnant women make a more informed decision regarding their drug therapy and reduce anxiety.
Research
Current Research Activities
My research interests include drug therapy in children, medication adherence and the effects of drugs in pregnancy and lactation. I am a member of the Research Ethics Board for Health Sciences Research Involving Human Subjects at the University of Western Ontario. I am involved in the research education of paediatric residents chairing the Resident Research Subcommittee Committee in the Department of Paediatrics.
Future Research Plans
I hope to continue to develop my research interests in medication adherence in children and the effects of drugs in pregnancy. I would also like to further explore the area of research ethics in children.
