Dr. Madhulika B. Gupta, MSc, PhDChildren’s Health Research Institute Lawson Health Research Institute University of Western Ontario Contact Information Brief Biography Dr. Madhulika Gupta received her MSc and PhD degrees in Biochemistry at Lucknow University (India). She pursued her postdoctoral work in the Department of Biochemistry with Dr. John E. Wilson at Michigan State University. Dr. Gupta then joined the National Botanical Research Institute in Lucknow, India, where she was a Research Scientist from 1986-1989. She then returned to Michigan State University as a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Biochemistry where she became an Assistant Professor in 1992. She moved to Canada in 1995 as a Research Scientist with Procyon Biopharma. She was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at The University of Western Ontario in 2002, and was cross-appointed to the Department of Biochemistry in 2004. Research Interests Protein structure and function, clinical applications of proteomics, biological/functional characterization and roles of specific proteins in fetal growth regulation. Research Activities Dr. Gupta has strong interests in protein biochemistry, specifically in the area of protein structure-functional analysis and enzymology-regulation and kinetic characterization. In the biopharmaceutical industry Dr. Gupta was a key researcher in the development of company’s breakthrough products, from their inception to clinical testing. Her achievements are recognized by the United States and European Patents and research publications coherent with the therapeutic prostate protein which is in Phase II Clinical Trial in the United States. Dr. Gupta’s current focus is on employing modern proteomics and genomics (real time PCR) technologies to study the pathophysiology of perinatal diseases. Her aims are to determine the underlying molecular and physiological mechanisms associated with these gestational diseases. She has presented her work in several national and international conferences and has been an invited speaker at both levels.
